Real Life Church is a church plant from Shepherd of the Hills in Porter Ranch. We opened our doors in October of 2000. For the first seven years RLC volunteers set up shop in the Edwards Town Center Theaters for Sunday services and children’s programming then packed it all away before the lights dimmed and the ‘coming attractions’ rolled. In 2004 we began our “Living Beyond Ourselves” campaign to build a permanent church home. In 2005 we were able to purchase land on the corner of Newhall Ranch Road & Grandview and began an 18-month construction process. By 2007 the seats were full and people were sitting in the aisles of the movie theater so we relocated to West Ranch High School where we had room to grow. Every Sunday morning for 2 ½ years volunteers worked 4 hours to transform the gym into a church with staging, lights and hi-def video. In April of 2010 construction was completed on our new building which is an environmentally-conscious facility sporting a 1200 seat auditorium, creative kids environments and an ‘all donation’ community coffee house called Undergrounds which is open 7 days a week. On April 11, 2010 we held our first services in the outdoor amphitheater and on April 18th we moved into the building! Since that time we have seen tremendous growth and we immediately added a 1700 square foot addition to accommodate more kids. At RLC our mission is to “Help people find and follow Jesus.” We strive to meet people in their comfort zone. With messages that deal with everyday issues, hopes, heartbreaks and questions - in other words ‘real life’. And we do it in ways people can relate to through media, music and stories of life change on the weekend and through neighborhood-based Life Groups during the week.
